Фредерик Небель
Фредерик Небель (Louis Frederick Nebel, 3 ноября 1903 - Стэйтен Айленд, Нью-Йорк - 3 мая 1967, Оранж, Калифорния)- Американский писатель. В 15 лет бросил школу. После работы в доках Нью-Йорка, он переехал в Канаду и стал фермером в ферме своего дяди. Опыт северных лесов стал главной темой его рассказов в ранние годы творчества, так как он писал приключенческие истории. Кроме своего имени, он так же писал под псевдонимами Граймс Хилл и Эрик Льюис.

Небель плодовитый автор. Его первый рассказ в журнале «Черная маска» появился в 1926 году. За двенадцать лет , с 1926 по 1937 год написал более 230 рассказов, включая несколько «долгоиграющих» серий, главным образом для журнала «Черная маска» и его ближайшего конкурента – «Десятицентовый детектив». С 1938 года он начинает писать для «журналов из качественной бумаги».

Герои Небеля – борцы с преступностью, крутые ребята. Они не гнушаются насилием, однако соблюдают моральный кодекс и прочно связаны с реальностью в отличие от персонажей, созданных многими другими авторами. Капитан Стив Макбрайд и сопровождающий его репортер Кеннеди появляются в 37 рассказах, напечатанных «Черной маской».

В том же журнале с 1930 по 1935 год было опубликовано 21 произведение о приключениях Донни Донахью по прозвищу Крутой Дик из агентства «Интерстейт»; шесть лучших из них вышли отдельным сборником под названием «Шесть смертельных дамок» (1950).

Полсотни рассказов о детективе Кардигане из агентства «Космос» печатались с 1931 по 1937 год на страницах «Десятицентового детектива»; лучшие были изданы сборником «Приключения Кардигана» (1988).

Два из трех крупных произведений Небеля были экранизированы: «Сонный Восток» (1933) в 1934 и «50 дорог в город» (1936) в 1937 году. Третий роман "Но не конец" (1934), в котором события происходят во времена Великой депрессии в Нью Йорке.

В 1930 году Небель продал права на экранизацию Макбрайда и Кеннеди студии Warner Brothers. Но в этих фильмах (9 серий) Кеннеди превратился в репортершу Торчи Блейн, а Макбрайд в объекта ее вожделения.
